Gwyneth was very excited to dress as Merida this Halloween. I finished the costume a few days before, but we didn’t get her all dressed up until right before trick-or-treating.
Like the Harry Potter costume, it just wouldn’t be complete without crazy colored hair spray. She really liked how her hair transformed to be just like Merida’s.
For this costume, I used Simplicity Pattern 0201. It came together quickly. The fabric was a rayon blend that had some stretch. It wasn’t difficult to sew with, however, I couldn’t iron it. Despite the bolt instructions saying I could use a cool iron, a test run with the iron at its coolest setting was too hot. So lots of finger pressing between sewing seams.
It was really fun walking around trick-or-treating with Harry Potter and Merida – or I should say, “that girl from brave”. Most people that saw us couldn’t remember Merida’s name, but Gwyneth was happy to inform them.
The bow, arrows and quiver were replica toys of what Merida uses. I think they were her favorite part. 🙂
Hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween . . . . and the sugar comas will end soon.
