I have never sewn anything to decorate for Halloween (aside from costumes –> see previous POST). My kids wanted to reuse their costumes from last year, so I had some time usually dedicated to costume sewing to sew something fun and decorative for the house.
I love the Cotton and Steel Halloween fabrics and put together this table runner from Terry Atkinson’s new book Simple, Fun & Quickly Done.
This is a fabulous book. The title does not lie. I cut AND pieced together this table runner at a recent quilt retreat with friends in under 45 min (and that included making a second center star because I made a mistake on one).
I have already made a second project in the book… you’ll see that one soon! (And there are a few more I’d like to make too).
I highly recommend it for fun and quick quilting projects.
I had a lot of fun with the quilting on this. I used straight line quilting (at different angles) on the exterior background fabric a scant 1/4″ apart. The stars were outlined and pop using stitch in the ditch quilting. Finally in the center, I added some big stitch hand quilting using 5/2 perle cotton in white and an orange.
