My kids love to paint. I always love what they come up with. They don’t seem to worry about how it will turn out. They just to it.
Most of our art in our house is original. Either photographs (we’ve taken) of wildlife and places we’ve been (like Yellowstone and Muir Woods), and the moon (through our telescope) or paintings our kids have done.
At least once a year, we let them go at it on a canvas. We started this when our oldest was one and now he’s five. Picasso had a blue period, my son is currently in his “green period”. He loves green right now. Can you tell?
He actually used “green” materials to spread his paint around. He used a fern, a kale leaf, a daisy and some ornamental grass to paint his picture. Totally his idea. So clever!
Here’s his finished painting. (It reminds me of long grass dancing in the wind with small purple wildflowers mixed in.)
My daughter, now two and a half, had to get in on the fun too. She’s more into the spreading out blobs of color on the canvas and seeing how it looks.
She really gets into it too!
Here’s her final painting.
That is a great idea. I love abstract paintings, and how much better it would be to fill my walls with art by people that I love!
I just love kids paintings so free and fun !
