Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I’m Vanessa and I’m a sewing pattern designer, photographer, sewer, crafter, blogger, wife and mother of two wonderful kids living in Minnesota. I love classic design, color, architecture, photography, style, fashion and of course, fabric. I’m constantly inspired by life around me to create and contribute my own modern style.

I received my PhD in Computational Chemistry shortly before my son was born and I became a mother for the first time. During those first years with small children, I revisited sewing, knitting and crafting — skills passed on to me from my mother and grandmothers. Creating sewing patterns combines so many aspects I love: design, sewing, photography, illustrating, technical writing and teaching.

Our house has become a gallery of artwork made by the whole family truly making our house into a home. We have abstract paintings (made by our children from age 1 – 4) and beautiful photographs of the places we’ve traveled together decorating our walls. There are countless quilts and pillows decorating the couches, chairs and beds (which are often transformed into forts and tents) and of course, my children’s closet’s are overflowing with hand made clothing. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

On the blog you’ll find a chronicle of my sewing, crafting (and occasionally knitting) adventures. I enjoy creating and designing my own projects (in my patterns and tutorials sections), teaching techniques so you can learn something new or just a new way to do it, but I also love to sew projects and tutorials from other designers and bloggers. I find the online sewing community inspiring, welcoming and inviting.
