Last week, my daughter took her first communion. We wanted a simple dress to go with the lavish crown of flowers she wanted and so I made a garden party dress (by Oliver + S).
I made the dress with an embroidered cotton lawn and two more layers under that of Robert Kaufman cotton lawn. All of the layers were so soft. She said it was like wearing a cloud. I made it three layers thick simply because the lawn was thin and I didn’t want anything under to be seen. In the end, I still made a little slip dress out of jersey knit for her to wear underneath.
She absolutely loved the flower crown. She was very specific about which colors she wanted in it. I made the crown with just some floral wire and floral tape. (You can see a tutorial of how to wire flowers HERE.)
Details of the dress:
I loved the embroidered lawn. So delicate.
The closure was a delicate thread chain loop which is so easy to make.
The three layers of cotton lawn were sewn together except for the skirt. I left those separate and gave them all beautiful baby hems. I was so happy with how the dress turned out and it was so easy to make. I will be making a few more of these soon!
Cute! Love your fabric choice!
Beautiful sewing! Looks like it was a lovely day!
Love the shoes, where are they from?
I got them on Amazon. Kenneth Cole.
