I have been trying to finish up projects that were started and just never finished…. This little mini I started not long after Heather Ross’ Briar Rose fabric came out. So that was a few years ago…..It may have been more than 3… but who’s counting.
The bee fabric had adorable bees on a hex print and I was sold. I wanted to mirror the background fabric and make a beehive with the inspiration print fabric popping out so that it would look like we are taking a peek into the hive.
I put this project aside for quite a while and at one point (literally) threw out what I had done and then started all over. I ended up using the same color background as some of the hexies. It gave a dimensional look to the hive which I really liked, although it didn’t show up as well in the photos.
All of the hexies are hand stitched together. Then stitched onto the background(s). Then I quilted it with diagonal lines a scant 1/4″ apart.
